Cat eye colors

Cat eyes come in shades of green, blue, yellow, and amber.

Blue

All kittens are born with blue eyes.  They start developing their permanent eye color around 6-7 weeks.

Blue

All colorpoint cats like Siamese, Himalayan, and Snowshoe have blue eyes.

Green

Green is considered the most common eye color, particularly among mixed breed cats.

Yellow

The yellow to gold eye coloration is a dominant trait in cats’ genetics which is why it shows up frequently in mixed-breed cats.

Hazel

Hazel is a mix of mostly green and yellow.  In some cats it can make their eyes look light brown.

Amber

The amber color is a result of a higher concentration of the pigment called pheomelanin, which produces red and yellow colors.

Copper

Copper is the deepest eye color a cat can have.  British shorthairs are known for this eye color.
